Superintendent, Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Meridian Marine Industries, Tom Ferns plays an instrumental role in the development and growth of the company on a hands on, day to day basis. Meridian Marine Industries is recognized as a quality provider of ship repair, new construction and offshore services.
Tom served his apprenticeship at Scott Lithgow Shipbuilding and Engineering in Geenock Scotland from 1969 to 1974 as a Plater/Shipwright. He received his City and Guilds of London, Parts 1, 2 and Final, Certificates in Shipbuilding and Engineering, with Distinction.
Entering the industry, Tom had plied his expertise as a Plater in arenas including the Blandford Offshore on North Sea oil rigs Saint John Shipbuilding and Engineering as the Canadian Shipbuilding and Engineering in Collingwood Ontario.
Tom found his way to the West Coast in 1982 when Vancouver Shipyards contracted his services as a Plater/Shipwright. He remained engaged here until the birth of Meridian Marine in 1994.
With Meridian, Tom is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day to day operations including job estimation, logistics, staff and materials management and coordinating efficient delivery of final products and services.
